José Guillermo Díaz-Montañés

J.G. Díaz Montañés was born in Madrid in 1962. He is married, with two sons and lives in Mahon (Menorca). He took a degree in Superior Industrial Engineering with an Electrical Specialization for ICAI at Univerdidad Pontificia de Comillas and graduated in Business Management at Instituto de Perfeccionamiento y Desarrollo Empresarial. He also attended several advanced managerial classes: Strategic Planning Expert Programme; Andersen Consulting, General Management Programme for IESE, Strategic Managing Course by Balearic Government, General Managers Program (GMP) at Cornell University in 2008 (USA), Advanced Management Programme IESE (2015). Besides he participated as a student in several seminars and conferences about tourism and managerial skills.
Since 1993 he is the Executive Director at ARTIEM Hotels, a job which he has combined with his participation in different touristic and business associations such as Fomento del Turismo de Menorca – Menorca Tourism Promotion – (President 1992-1996), Balearic Institute of Tourism (Counsellor, 1992-1996), Menorca Hotels Association (Member of the board of directors, 1995-2010), Agrupación Hotelera de las Zonas Turísticas de España – Hotels Association of Spanish Touristic Areas –  (ZONTUR, President,  2001-2004), Instituto Calidad Turística de España – Touristic Quality Institute of Spain – (ICTE, Member of the board of directors, 2001-2004), CEOE (Member of the board of directors and tourism commission, 2001-2007) y Consejo Español de Turismo – Spanish Tourism Council – (Counsellor, 2004-2007).
Additionally, between 2004 and 2007 he was part of the Spanish confederation of hotels and touristic apartments (CEHAT), born from the merge between Zontur and the Spanish Hotels Federation of which he was the first president; he was founder and president of the Technological Hotel Institute from 2004 to 2008. In 2007 he was made responsible for the working group of the Innovation Area of the Spanish Tourism Plan Horizonte 2020, and one year later, he took over the challenge of a new sector, the media sector, as a President of the Administrative Counsel of the Editorial Group Menorca S.A, position held until 2013.
His extensive career allowed him to participate as a speaker and as an attendee to many seminars and conferences about Spanish tourism (in the whole national territory), and to win various awards such as Entrepreneur of the Year 1998, Escudo de Oro of the High School of Tourism in Baleares (1999) and Golden Medal for Touristic and Innovation Achievement (prize given by the Ministers Counsel in 2013).
